MP: I was interested in the trees in Alexia’s animation of Adam and Eve. In Chris Marker’s La Jetee, there’s a funny scene where the protaganist points to the trees explaining that this is where he came from. I decided to take this as my starting point for a work ‘pointing to the trees’. An image of trees revealed itself in a 1969 copy of Devon Life stashed under my desk. I live in Devon. This is where I came from (points to trees). A selection of images were cut out with kitchen scissors and trimmed with a guillotine. Through a process of arrangement and rearrangement the sequence was reduced to 9 images. This process is an ongoing, scrapbook-like activity. Often pictures find their way into a rubbishy photocopied book-work and this may be so with this arrangement titled ‘Mrs Tibby Points to the Trees’. I like the methodical process of scanning, editing and filing images on the computer and then arranging them on the page both online and offline; in this case, stretched, haphazardly on an online page.
